COVID-19 and the Effects on Human Trafficking

One would think that the "Stay-In-Place" orders that have been mandated in every city of every state of the U.S. would slow down the human trafficking business. Unfortunately, that is not the case...

In fact, officials from a variety of local, state and worldwide organizations note that the lock-down has actually increased the number of people vulnerable to exploitation by traffickers. With the internet as a main avenue to "market" their victims, it's business as usual. Some reliable resources suggest that the numbers have actually risen due to the surplus amount of time clients now have to engage.

The Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force, has been very creative in using the health and safety statutes in place to identify and shut down these businesses. KTLA 5 recently featured how they have changed their mission during the Coronavirus outbreak.
